Social Studies
The Social Studies Department at Sandpoint High School is committed to helping students become informed, productive citizens. Through the courses offered in our program, we hope that each student will further develop:
The ability to read, write, and speak effectively
The ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a group
The ability to access information from varied sources, analyze and evaluate information and ideas, ask meaningful questions, and generate informed opinions, reasoned answers, and creative solutions
Knowledge of the historical, political, and economic issues that have shaped the world we live in today
An understanding of various cultures and perspectives and a respect for diverse views and ideas
Knowledge of our nation's founding documents, civic institutions, and political processes
A commitment to core democratic values and a desire to be an informed, engaged participant in our political system
A sense of responsibility for the well-being of oneself, one's family, and the community
