ACCESS

Not all students learn at the same rate.  Therefore, the purpose of ACCESS is to provide time for students to finish their work and get needed help from teachers during the school day. ACCESS is part of the academic daily schedule, and is an opportunity to improve student achievement.

CLASS PROCEDURES
  1. Students need to be present in their own ACCESS class at the beginning of ACCESS (2:12pm) for attendance, to see the ACCESS event calendar, and to find out their “light status.”
  2. At 2:12pm (not before), "Requested" students need to leave their home ACCESS and go to the teacher they are requested by.
  3. At 2:15pm (not before), other students may leave their home ACCESS if applicable.
  4. All students need to “sign out” and “sign in” to each class they visit during the ACCESS period.
  5. Teacher’s will perform “spot checks” on random students to ensure that they are actually reaching their said destination.  Missing students will be considered truant and receive two hours of Saturday school.
REQUESTED - “Students who need to see a teacher regarding some academic issue”
  1. "Requested" students are required to go see the requesting teacher.  They may not choose to go see another teacher, or stay in their home ACCESS.
    1. "Requested" students should bring their materials (notes, binder, etc...) when/if they go see a teacher for help. Be prepared to work!
  2. "Requested" students will not be allowed to leave campus during ACCESS, nor participate in any intramural events or “green-light” rewards. If students turn in their work to "clear" a "request," they must still remain in ACCESS for that day on “request” status.
  3. "Requested" students found leaving campus or attending “green-light” activities will be considered truant and automatically assigned two hours of Saturday school.

RED LIGHTS - “Students failing a class and/or not reaching their potential”

  1. “Red-light” means that the student is not reaching their potential in a certain class.  This usually means the student has a low D or an F in the class of the teacher listed.
  2. "Red-light" means the student either has missing work, or should be working harder to succeed in that class; however, that teacher is NOT requesting the student come to them.  The student should only go to that teacher if they have specific questions for that teacher.
    1. "Red-light" students should bring their materials (notes, binder, etc...) when/if they go see a teacher for help. Be prepared to work!
  3. Red-lighted students will not be allowed to leave campus during ACCESS, nor participate in any intramural events or “green-light” rewards. If students turn in their work to "clear" a "red-light," they must still remain in ACCESS for that day on “red light” status.
  4. Red-lighted students found leaving campus or attending “green-light” activities will be considered truant and automatically assigned two hours of Saturday school.
GREEN LIGHTS - “Students with a C or better and/or reaching their potential”
  1. ALL “green-light” students who do not have specific school work to do should engage their brain in some way, such as:
    1. Draw, or read a book/magazine
    2. Play chess, checkers, or some other brain-engaging game
    3. Organize school work as in filling out the agenda book calendar to list important due dates, events, etc...
  2. On “green-light days” 11th and 12th grade “green-lights” must choose one of the following:
    1. be in a classroom actively engaged
    2. be in the gym for intramural options (available everyday)
    3. be in the library actively engaged
    4. be in the commons area
    5. be off campus in a timely manner (ASAP after 2:15pm bell)
    6. * upperclassmen may still leave campus after choosing to get help from a teacher
  3. 11th and 12th grade "green-light" students are allowed to leave campus ONLY on designated "green-light days."  Students need to check into their ACCESS class for attendance and to find out if it is a designated "green-light day."
  4. Green-light upperclassmen leaving campus should have their student ID available for verification purposes.
  5. 10th grade “green-light” students will be allowed to participate in intramurals and/or green-light rewards when they are offered… (10th grade intramural Tues & Fri.)
  6. 9th grade “green-light” students will be allowed to participate in intramurals and/or green-light rewards when they are offered… (9th grade intramural Mon & Thurs.)
YELLOW LIGHTS
  1. Students will be assigned a yellow-light ONLY if they had an absence.
  2. Yellow-lighted students should be checking in with ALL teachers from the day they were absent BEFORE making up work in a specific class.
  3. Yellow-lighted students may leave after checking in with all teachers UNLESS they are also red-lighted/requested by a teacher.
GENERAL INFO
  1. Teachers are still available before and after school if students need more help and/or time in addition to ACCESS.
  2. All students should regularly check their grades via Schoolmaster Pass.  The PASS link provides information to students on what they have missing and thus what they could be working on.
  3. Information on which days are green-light days and when intramurals are available will be found on the online calendar next to the online ACCESS roster http://access/php/entry.php
